Gary Staines


Gary Staines is the owner of the Runners Roost in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Having owned the store since 2004, Gary and his wife Linda have developed one of Colorado’s best local businesses. Gary was a member of the 1988 British Olympic team, having made it to the Olympic final in the 5K. Gary placed 13th overall in the 1989 IAFF World Cross Country Championship, where his team won a silver medal. Additionally, Gary earned an individual silver medal in the 1990 European Championship for 5k with a personal best (PB) of 13:14, which ranked him #9 in the world. Owning a 3:53.82 (mile) and 13:14 (5k) PB.

Gary illustrated additional range and longevity in his professional running career in 1996 when he set the world record for 10 mile (46.11) in Portsmouth, N.H and then he ran 2:11.25 at the Chicago Marathon, which placed him fifth. Gary still runs or bikes every day of the week along the many beautiful routes in Colorado Springs. His extensive background in running gives him the expertise needed to fit customers to the proper running shoe.

Linda Staines


Linda Staines is the owner of Runners Roost in Colorado Springs. Linda’s running background is founded mainly in the sprinting events. She owns personal best times of 50.98 (400) and 2:01.82 (800) and has been part of many successful relay teams during her running career. Linda won the gold medal for 400 meters at the 1988 UK National Championship, where she also earned a selection to the British Olympic team. She then repeated as the UK National 400 Champion in 1989. Linda reached her peak in 1991 at the World Championship in Tokyo, where she reached the semi-finals as she ran a lifetime best of 50.98. She then went on to run a 49.7 split, in anchoring the British relay team to fourth place. The quartet of Lorraine Hanson, Phylis Smith, Sally Gunnell and Keough set a UK record of 3:22.01, that would stand for sixteen years. Linda has received medals from meets around the world; including the World Outdoor Championship, Commonwealth Games (gold & silver), IAAF World Cup and the European Championship (bronze).

As a life long runner, Linda surfaced again in 2005 and 2006, when she ran a UK masters record (age 40+) in the 400 meters with 54.81 and then she went on to run 2:06.86 for 800 meters–both records (as of 2014) still stand. As a sprinter, looking for a challenge, she ran a 3:15.03 marathon. Linda uses her passion for running and intelligence about the running gait to fit customers to the perfect shoe for their needs.

Jon Anderson


A native of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, Jon Anderson brought home three state Cross Country champion titles by the age of 18. Jon was accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, and ran four years on their Varsity Track and Field, and Cross Country Teams. Following graduation, Jon served five years in the United States Army as an artillery officer. Between combat tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan, Jon ran on the All Army Cross Country team and competed for the All Armed Forces team in the 2010 Cross Country Military World Championships.

Since resigning his commission as a captain, Jon has continued his pursuits as coach for the Fort Carson Army 10 Miler team. A lifetime mentor for young adult athletes, Jon is a USA Track and Field level I certified coach and TRX level 1 certified instructor who has placed at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships and competed in multiple NCAA Track Championships.

Daniel J. “DJ” Russell


Daniel is a Bay Area native who moved to Colorado in 1999. Daniel grew up playing nearly every sport that he could including hockey, football, running, lacrosse, soccer, etc. Daniel is in the teachers education program at UCCS and utilizes his passion for students to teach both in the classroom and on the track. He will complete his Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Education-History in the spring of 2017.

As a USATF Level 1 certified coach Daniel has crowned three of the last four 4A boys high jump champions, as well as numerous state placers and qualifiers. Daniel is in his sixth year coaching high school track, and his fourth year coaching jumps and hurdles at Cheyenne Mountain High School. Daniel also coaches club track for Exceler8 TC in Monument, Colorado.

Through his passion for people Daniel has gotten the opportunity to do non-profit work all over the world. His work has taken him to remote villages in Nepal to work in orphanages and help with earthquake relief, Okinawa, Japan to work with people in the streets, and the bush of Uganda to set up a ministry sponsoring children for school.
